Holes Sploosh Recipe

What Is Holes Sploosh Recipe

Sploosh, the well-known spiced peaches made by Katherine Barlow, are fermented for over a century and tightly packed in glass jars.

The recipe is somewhat dense, with a peppery flavor and an earthy scent. The chunks of peach you’ll get when you puree the mixture will be large, but they will break down quickly in your mouth thanks to their natural sweetness.

This can also be enjoyed as a condiment for savory foods or cocktails. It pairs well with many types of dishes.

What do spiced peaches taste like?

When someone discovers the taste before cooking it, it makes the dish even more delicious.

This dish is a summer favorite and can be made with fresh or canned peaches. It is best served cold or at room temperature.

The main flavor in this dish is peach, but it also has a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg. The peaches are cooked until they are soft and then pureed.

They are combined with some sugar, spices, and lemon juice. The taste? One bite, and you’ll be transported to a summertime filled with peach-filled moments.

You will feel like a pumpkin pie or an apple cider moment. And, the spicy flavor will add another level of enjoyment.

Can you heat up canned peaches?

Before I jump to the main part, I want to answer this question asked by one of my readers. (You can ask any questions too by submitting them below.)

However, the answer is, Yes, you can heat up canned peaches by microwaving them. To do this, place the cans of peaches in a microwave-safe dish.

Be sure to cover them with plastic wrap so that they do not come into contact with any metal parts of the microwaves.

Microwave on high for 2 minutes or until heated through. By the way, this is not the right way to prepare our today’s recipe. Then, what is the proper way? Let’s see it below now.

  • 2 cups of pure water
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

Instructions for Holes Sploosh Recipe

Combine sugar, water, and cornstarch in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Bring mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally.

Add 1 tablespoon of cinnamon and lemon zest

Simmer for 25 minutes or until thickened (it will coat the back of a spoon).

Take another pot. We will use it to boil canning jars, lids, and rings.

Fill it with water and add the cloves.

Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce heat to medium-high and place pot on another burner so that stovetop is between them both (just in case of spills).

Boil for 5 minutes.

Remove cloves and add peeled peaches to the pot (reserving 1 cup of the peach mixture).

Stir in the reserved 1 cup peach mixture and bring to a boil.

Place lids on jars with rings (you may have to do this in 2 batches),

Add peach mixture to jars, making sure to pack it in well.

Place filled jars in the canner and fill up water until it covers the jars by an inch or two (add more boiling water if necessary).

Put on the burner with cloves and bring to a rolling boil over high heat (be careful – hot steam will come out of the lids).

Process for 25 minutes.

Remove from canner and let cool on a wire rack.

We are done.

Pro Tips to make the Holes Sploosh Recipe tastier:

1) Try subbing in some apples for the peaches. You could also add a tablespoon of honey or agave nectar to sweeten up the recipe.
2) Add 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract for extra flavor.
3) Some people prefer to use a sugar-free syrup when canning, but boiling water will work just as well.
4) Choose your favorite cinnamon flavor – some people like nutmeg, others prefer generic cinnamon spice blends (both of which are available at most supermarkets).

Is Holes Sploosh Recipe Healthy?

You might see in supermarket spice cabinets a variety of cinnamon flavors, including nutmeg and generic cinnamon spice blends.

These are all made with ground spices, so they’re generally not as healthy as whole-leaf spices like cloves.

However, the sugar in generic cinnamon spice blends is likely used to sweeten them instead of being stored on the shelf as sugar cane syrup (which would be more processed).

This recipe should be relatively healthful as long as you’re using a quality brand of whole-leaf cloves and avoiding commercial flavorings or syrups.

And look at the ingredients list; this recipe only calls for a few simple whole-food ingredients. So it’s definitely worth giving. But, people who have digestive issues or sensitivities to cloves might want to avoid this recipe.

Final Thoughts

Sploosh is a delicious combination of sweet and sour flavors, which makes it an instant hit with kids as well. I usually enjoy canned peaches as a topping for smoothies or yoghurt.

They’re also deliciously diced up and added to oatmeal or cereal bowls. You can also eat them straight out of the can, sounds funny, but I love them that way.
